Trends are the most important indicators in Presidential Polls

We are obsessed with the daily poll numbers we get everyday from the press. I’ve been noticing some very disturbing trends in the reporting of polls on National TV.

I watch a lot of TV (Current TV, MSNBC and CNN) on a daily basis and have noticed that commentators are more likely to focus on the polls that lean their way. Many Democrats, me included, are hanging our hopes on Nate Silver. I watch his site day and night waiting for his latest projections.

Every morning I watch Morning Joe on MSNBC. Joe Scarborough consistently points out the daily polls that give Mitt Romney an edge and discounts Nate Silver and his projection models over and over. On Thursday morning, even though he was not on the show that day, Joe Scarborough spent his morning dissing Nate Silver on Twitter. Here is Nate Silver’s response to Joe’s tweets:

Nate Silver tweets to Joe Scarborough

Margaret Sullivan on The New York Times Opinion Pages, quoted Joe Scarborough.

“Anybody that thinks that this race is anything but a tossup right now is such an ideologue, they should be kept away from typewriters, computers, laptops and microphones for the next 10 days, because they’re jokes.”

The above words are those of Joe Scarborough, host of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” program. He’s talking about Nate Silver, the statistics wizard whose FiveThirtyEight blog is licensed by The New York Times, and who writes for The Times frequently online as well as in print. Mr. Silver also has a desk in The Times’s newsroom.

The point I’m trying to make is that it’s all about the trend in the polls.  In this image of Nate Silver’s prediction from today, you can clearly see the down trend for President Obama after the first Presidential debate, the up trend after the second an third Presidential Debates and the sharp up trend after Hurricane Sandy.

Nate Silver's Presidential prediction from November 3, 2012

Hey Joe Scarborough, even you have to admit that it’s all about the trends and clearly, President Obama has the momentum to bring this home in a BIG way.

Joe, during the primaries you consistently said that Mitt Romney is a flawed candidate, yet now you are on the Romney bandwagon. Why would you back a flawed candidate, because he’s the best of the worst that ran for President on the Republican ticket? It’s pretty sad that you would back a man with little integrity who consistently lies to the American public just because he’s the last Republican standing. This is the same mindset that gave us Sarah Palin. Maybe you’re the joke Joe, not the rest of who are voting in the best interest of the country.

Post Debate, High Altitude Sickness and a laugh on Mitt Romney (Gangnam Style)

After last nights debate, I can’t lie, I was a little disappointed. President Obama looked tired and not quite his normal self. I think President Obama was suffering the effects of the high altitude sickness in Denver.

Mitt Romney was smart enough to do his debate prep in Denver while President Obama came into town from Las Vegas only a few hours before the debate.  Las Vegas having an altitude of 2,200 feet and Denver having an altitude of 5,280 feet. President Obama should have read this article: 8 tips to avoid Mile High altitude sickness.

The Mile High City has 17 percent less oxygen than cities at sea level, so don’t be surprised if you come to town and become breathless over more than the scenery. Shortness of breath, throbbing headaches and fatigue are just a few symptoms of altitude sickness. Fortunately, many people come and go symptom free. But if the elevation gets to you…

As John Fugelsang said during the debate coverage on Current TV, he had the same problems performing during a comedy show in Denver.

Had President Obama come into town a few days earlier and acclimated to the altitude, we may have seen a different debate last night.

The only thing we can do at this point is have a laugh on Mitt Romney, enjoy!

Mitt Romney Gangnam Style

The GOP has a broken picker, they picked another lier!

What is wrong with the GOP and their ability to pick candidates? I thought the GOP would have learned their lesson after John McCain picked Sarah Palin. After a failed vetting process, as documented in Game Change, Steve Schmidt himself has admitted that they picked Sarah Palin to make a game changing move in the election, to win at any cost, not because she was qualified to be President of the United States. Schmidt admitted on Morning Joe that they made a reckless choice and did a disservice to the United States of America by picking Sarah Palin. Did they learn? I think not.

During the Presidential Primary, we were presented with a host of incompetent candidates. Newt Gingrich? Rich Santorum? Ron Paul? Michelle Bauchman? Herman Cane? Really? Who encouraged these people to run?

GOP Presidential Primary Candidates 2012

It seems like out of a host of incompetent candidates, the one with the most money won. Just that simple, his money out lasted everyone else while he was slamming his opponents with nasty ads over and over and over again. Money talks. Mitt Romney is the GOP nominee for the President of the United States, apparently by default.

Doesn’t it seem that the GOP didn’t run their best and brightest? Do you think they were so sure President Obama would be re-elected that they didn’t want to tarnish their best candidates with a loss? Is Mitt Romney a human sacrifice hand fed to the American public by the GOP? Who are they holding back for the 2016 race? Jeb Bush?

Did anyone but me notice what happened when it came time for Mitt Romney to select a running mate? How many potential Vice Presidential short listers came on the air and said categorically NO, maybe adding some Romney insults to the interview to make sure they weren’t included on Mitt’s long or short list. Wouldn’t you love to see a video of those strung together? Oh wait a minute, there is one, you can watch it here.

I think Mitt Romney’s short list didn’t consist of the best Republican running mates that are qualified to be President. I think his very short list consisted of a very small number of people who were willing to run on a ticket with Mitt Romney.

Now we have Paul Ryan. Qualified to be President? I hear he was sent to Washington because his family didn’t feel he was qualified to be a part of their family business. Was Ryan sent to Washington to secure Government contracts for the family business?

The one thing he is qualified to do is lie, just like Mitt Romney.  I’ve done a few blog posts regarding Mitt’s blatant lies on the campaign trail, check them out.

After only a few days on the trail, Paul Ryan is lying already. What a way to pick GOP.

Romney Hood, I couldn’t resist

Romney HoodI must confess, I’ve been a little caught up in the Olympics and have had my politics in small doses for the past few days, but this I could not resist.

When I heard President Obama talking about Mitt Romney’s tax plan and called it Romney Hood, I thought I was going to lose it.

Earlier tonight I was watching Chris Matthews and saw this great image by Winston Smith of DailyKos.com and couldn’t resist a quick blog post.

Thanks Mitt for the inspiration to turn off the Olympics for a few minutes.

By the way, does anyone know why trampoline and table tennis are Olympic Sports?

He Tried, We Tried, the Republicans Didn’t Try!

This video is a piece of pure fiction.  Don’t get it twisted RNC, Americans aren’t stupid. You think we don’t know what “Do Nothing Congress” means? The saying should be “Do Nothing Republicans in Congress.”

I’m having a hard time understanding why the Republicans ran for Congress. To help the American people? I think not. They came to Washington to help themselves and do the bidding of the Koch Brothers. Their every thought and every move is all about how to get re-elected. Where’s the integrity in this political party?

The only legislation the Republicans want to pass is legislation taking away more and more of our rights.  If the Democrats weren’t in control of the Senate and able to stop them, I don’t know where we’d be now.

He Tried, We Tried, the Republicans didn't try

Our fate is in our hands.

Trickle down economics that are so beloved by the Republican party don’t work. We’ve tried this over and over and over. We’ve been applying trickle down for over 10 years and WHERE ARE THE JOBS? Don’t raise taxes on the “Job Creators?” The “Job Creators” have had the lowest taxes in history for over 10 years! WHERE ARE THE JOBS?

The question we should be asking after over 10 years of trickle down economics is, WHERE IS THE MONEY? Not in my bank account and I’ll bet it’s not in yours either.  It’s defiantly not with the middle class, that’s for sure. I know where it is, in the savings and off shore accounts of the top 2%. Trickle Down? Don’t make me laugh.

This video speaks the truth and tells us straight up what he tried and continues to try. Had President Obama’s policies been adopted by Congress, we wouldn’t be in the mess we are now.  President Obama is not to blame for today’s economic problems, the Do Nothing Republican Congress is. He tried.

Give President Obama four more years.  It is OK to make a change, elect Democrats to Congress so we can get this fixed. If we don’t, the economic melt down of a few years ago is going to look like a walk in the park.
